Fabrication Station training

Workshops

Training is completed in order. Level 1 covers workshop safety and hand tools, Level 2 covers powered and pneumatic equipment, and Level 3 covers MIG welding and advanced equipment.

New workshop dates are announced to students by email and shown on SISO when booking opens. Check SISO for the exact days and times.

Use equipment only after it has been covered in your completed Fabrication Station training. To access and work in the station, you must wear the correct clothing and PPE; review the Safety and PPE requirements before attending.

01Green / Level 1

Hand tools and workshop safety

Workshop layout, emergency procedures, measuring, marking, hand cutting, material handling and basic fabrication.

Prerequisite: None. All students start with Level 1.

Training includes

  • Workbenches and vices
  • Hammers, mallets, files, hacksaws and snips
  • Measuring, marking, clamping and other non-powered hand tools
  • Manual bender, Bernardo 3-in-1 and sheet folder
02Yellow / Level 2

Powered and pneumatic tools

Powered and pneumatic equipment, tool preparation, machine guarding and safe material handling.

Prerequisite: Complete Level 1 first.

Training includes

  • Hydraulic press, cold saw, pillar drill and plate roller
  • Fixed grinding and polishing equipment
  • All pneumatic and battery-operated tools
03Purple / Level 3

MIG welding and advanced equipment

Welding setup, joint preparation, torch control, extraction, supervised practice and assessment.

Prerequisite: Complete Level 2 first.

Training includes

  • MIG, TIG and stick welders
  • FastSpotter resistance welder
  • Plasma cutter
