Getting started
Who can use the Fabrication Station?
Students of the college can use the Fabrication Station after completing the required training. See Access and booking for eligibility information.
Where is the station, and when is it open?
The workshop is in room GF31 ↗. During teaching weeks, sessions normally run Monday 13:30–16:30 and Tuesday 09:30–12:30. See Access and booking for current availability.
How do I book training?
Book through SISO and complete the levels in order. See Workshops for the training route and Access and booking for booking steps.
Can I use equipment before completing training?
No. Complete the training required for the equipment you plan to use. Previous experience does not replace Fabrication Station training.

Using equipment
What should I bring?
Bring full-body overalls or a boiler suit, well-fitting steel toe-cap boots, and well-fitting work gloves suitable for the task. Check the relevant workshop and Safety page before attending.
When can I use the equipment?
Use only equipment covered by your completed training, during the workshop sessions listed on Access and booking. Ask a technician before an unfamiliar setup, material or process.
What should I do if equipment fails or is damaged?
Stop using it and report the issue to a technician. Never operate equipment marked out of order; consult the relevant equipment guide for operating help.
What materials and help are available?
Basic metal stock and consumables are available subject to availability. See Access and booking for materials information and discuss specialist needs with the technicians.

Workshop rules
When should I wear gloves?
Wear task-appropriate gloves when instructed, but remove them where training identifies an entanglement risk. Follow the Safety page and technician instructions.
Can I work alone?
Not for work identified on the Safety page as requiring another person in the workshop. Follow the trained procedure for each tool.
What should I do in an emergency?
Contact workshop staff immediately. For a severe injury, call 112 or 999 first, then report the incident or near miss. See the Safety page for emergency guidance.
What are the rules for tools, storage and cleanup?
Keep tools in the workshop, agree storage in advance, and leave your bench and floor area clean. The full rules are on the Safety page.
